It seems like everyone becomes a bit more generous around Christmas time and Belmont House School’s music groups have been putting in overtime to solicit donations for worthwhile charities.
Our students have been providing a number of public performances around Glasgow. Most recently, they were invited to sing at The Avenue in Newton Mearns on December 14th. Several other students were circulating with charity buckets and collecting money for Radio Clyde's Cash for Kids initiative which supports the most vulnerable children in our communities. You can donate cash at Clyde 1 or your nearest ASDA to ensure that less local kids wake up with no presents this Christmas (more information here).
Some of you eagle-eyed folks may have spotted the Tanzanian flag in the above picture. This is because we were also able to catch up with Heather Suttie (at The Avenue), Voluntary Project Manager for the Kind Heart Africa School in Tanzania, which has enrolled one hundred homeless children in the Dar es Salaam region, providing them a happy and secure environment for learning under the ministry of two Buddhist monks. Tanzania is struggling to cope with vulnerable children, with between 3,000 – 5,000 in the Dar es Salaam region, alone. Ms. Suttie has been seeking contributions of artwork, stories and poems for their storytelling sessions, whether fictional or factual pieces, and Belmont students are working hard to deliver their first batch of materials to send in mid-January.
If you were in Princes Square on the 12th of December, you may have been serenaded by our Junior and Senior choirs, who raised a good deal of money for Quarriers, which provide social care to Scottish families.
These performances follow on the heels of those of our Celtic Rock Group, who performed a selection of both seasonal and Scottish favourites at John Lewis on November 25th as well as visiting Townend Care Home in Symington.
All of our public performances were a brilliant warm-up for our annual seasonal concert on December 15th -- but of course, that deserves a post of its own, so watch this space!
